While reorganizing my drives last year, I discovered a collection of demos from 2020. Turns out I’d hastily written and recorded a ton of half-ideas with no intention of doing anything with them; most likely a result of being presented with lots of free time and complete abandonment from daily schedules and lifestyles as we knew it during the lockdown period. So much of the music was an instinctive response to whatever was happening in the moment — the absolute strangeness of the pandemic, spending unhealthy amounts of time on the internet, watching crucial pieces infrastructure crumble, and receiving corporate emails with new platitudes everyday.
Listening back to these demos in 2022 felt like rediscovering a vibrant and chaotic time capsule that not only captured the circumstances but also the kind of person I was at that time. The music had an aura of careless abandon and childlike raggedness to it. I decided to finish these songs by building structure around demo takes, retaining their flaws to showcase the peculiar energy they contained.
The result is an EP titled ‘More Songs About Languishing and Logistics’. It is very much an assembled EP that came together after the fact, and a collaboration between two different selves separated in time. Put together from demo takes, resampled guitar bits, and field recordings from old rehearsals and sound checks, these songs are a bit weird and are from a time that I don’t remember too well anymore. I’m glad that they’ll see the light of day.
More Songs About Languishing and Logistics EP will be out on March 3, 2023 on Bandcamp.
The beautiful cover art for this EP was made by Natalia Chirkowska.
